SPORTS VISION

See Better, Play Better
Have you ever wished you could improve your batting average, lower your golf score or just play your favorite sport better? If so, you're not like most sports participants. We all want to do better at the things we enjoy doing. Sharpening your vision skills is one way of improving your "game" and giving a "winning edge."

Your vision and performance
Your vision, just like the strength in your arms and the speed in your legs, plays an important part in how well you play your game. And, just like exercise and practice can increase your strength and speed, there are ways you can improve your visual fitness. With sports glasses, corrective lenses, the new Nike contact lenses to enhance contrast, or sports vision therapy we can improve visual acuity, hand/eye coordination, and depth perception.

Improving your vision skills
If your visual information is inaccurate, it can throw off your body's timings and cause your performance level to drop. Mis-hitting the ball, throwing off target or dropping passes can be indications of inaccurate vision.

Many people are remarkably skillfull at adapting to their vision problems. They assume everyone sees the way they do. Others may have good vision skills that enable them to play well but, if sharpened, could help them play even better. It is a matter of "what you are, compared to what you could be."

You can improve these skills, along with other vision skills, through a vision therapy program prescribed by Vision Park Family Eye Care. For instance, one study revealed that a college baseball player increased his batting average from .200 to .300 after vision therapy.

Protecting your eyes
Eye protection should be a major concern to all sports participants, especially in certain high risk sports. To protect your eyes from sports-related injuries, it's a good idea to wear the proper eye protection. There are many types of sports eyewear available for your use in either prescription or non-prescription lenses. Ask us which is best suited for your favorite sport.

Sports that may be hazardous to your eyes include racquetball, tennis, squash, handball, ice hockey, badminton, archery, baseball/softball, basketball, fencing, boxing, karate and any sport with a projectile.

Also remember to play defensively in any type of sports activity, epsecially racquet sports.
We can recommend the proper prescription lenses or design a vision therapy program to maximize your visual skills and help you see better and play better.
